HOP 177 - jet event no. 27

This is the most spectacular of the HOP 177 jets observed by EIS.

It is a large jet event in the EIS raster that is unfortunately partly obscured by an SAA band. There is a very strong signature in the AIA 193 movie that clearly demonstrates that this is a blowout/expanding loop event. The expanding loop has one footpoint within an intense bright point, while the other seems to be in a dark area.

The AIA event begins around 08:47 and is over by about 09:30. The EIS raster covers the period from about 09:14 to 09:25 UT. By 09:14 large open field lines are already present in the AIA images, thus the large area of blueshift in the EIS raster clearly implies that plasma is flowing out along these fields lines.

The HMI 720s magnetogram movie (see below) shows the magnetic evolution of the bright point over a 9 hour period. Two compact opposite polarity features are seen to come together and cancel just at the time of the jet.

XRT was taking Ti-poly and Be-thin images at about 2.5min cadence, however there was a data gap between 09:03 and 09:25 UT. The movies below cover the period 08:30 to 09:03 UT. The Be-thin filter is sensitive to higher temperatures than Ti-poly. It can be seen that the "kernels" in the base of the bright point emit strongly in the two filters.

The FOV of the XRT movies has been chosen to match that of the AIA "close-up" movies. Note that the pointing in the XRT movies is different to AIA. I have just taken the pointing information from the files, which is not correct. The AIA pointing is correct.

The movie below shows the evolution of the photospheric flow field for the period 08:00 to 10:00 UT, as derived from a local correlation tracking technique.
