Planning week 14 - 24 Dec 2019

The planning schedule switched from regular to focused during this week, so I first had to prepare a weekend plan (OP1), and then a 7-day plan (OP2). The Sun began very quiet, with two large polar coronal holes, and a low-latitude coronal hole in the northern hemisphere.

For OP1 I mainly tracked the low-latitude coronal hole, looking for jets or plumes with Cool_loop_resp_v2.

For OP2 I had a north coronal hole observation on 17 Dec, and then it was mainly quiet Sun tracking. I used Large_CH_Map so it may be useful for bright point monitoring.

Saturday 14 December (OP1)

IRIS requested support for HOP 307 (long term AR evolution) on a large bright point, so I supported with VHH_SlowAR_2h20m at 11:07 UT.

There then followed sustained coverage of the low latitude coronal hole. I scheduled the first of four HOP81_new_study rasters at 14:12 UT, covering most of the CH. I then ran 35 repeats of Cool_loop_resp_v2 from 15:25 UT. I chose a region near the edge of the AR that had some magnetic complexity and 193 emission.

Sunday 15 December (OP1)

The 2nd of the four HOP81_new_study rasters was run at 00:45 UT.

A SOT mosaic was run between 06:02 and 11:00 UT. This is nine pointings, with seven of SOT_MOSAIC_SW_V1, bookended by two of SOT_MOSAIC_SN_V1.

The 3rd HOP81_new_study was run at 10:56 UT, followed by 57 repeats of Cool_loop_resp_v2. Pointing was the same as Saturday.

Monday 16 December (OP1)

The 4th HOP81_new_study was run at 03:20 UT.

The OP finished with support of HOP 336 at 06:37 (north) and 09:50 UT (south) using Large_CH_Map.

Tuesday 17 December (OP2)

The north coronal hole had a low latitude extension, so I scheduled HOP81_new_study (large raster) for 15 repeats from 11:15 UT (18.5 hours). Pointing not ideal, though (X=-233).

Wednesday 18 December (OP2)

The rest of the plan is mostly quiet Sun tracking. I decided to use Large_CH_Map. Five repeats at 06:31 UT, then three repeats at 12:52 UT, then seven repeats at 18:17 UT.

Thursday 19 December (OP2)

AIA 193 image

Quiet Sun tracking continued at 06:02 UT with 11 repeats of Large_CH_Map.

HOP336 was run at the equator with the same pointing as the quiet Sun tracking. Thus the two repeats of Large_CH_Map at 18:04 UT are part of the same sequence. The sixth of the quiet Sun sequences was at 21:04 UT with 5 repeats.

Friday 20 December (OP2)

No studies on this day.

Saturday 21 December (OP2)

Quiet Sun tracking continued, but the pointing was moved back to the east. I scheduled Large_CH_Map at 06:38 UT (10 repeats) and 18:12 UT (5 repeats).

Sunday 22 December (OP2)

No studies on this day.

Monday 23 December (OP2)

HOP 336 was supported again at the usual north/south pointings, at 07:30 and 10:40 UT.

I requested 12 hours at the west limb. I first ran the large raster HPW021VEL260x512v2 (14:12 UT), then 40 repeats of the HPW023_FULLCCD_V3s2 sit-and-stare study at 16:00 UT (part of EIS calibration activities). I then scheduled PRY_sit_stare_1 at 17:45 UT for 11 hours at the same pointing.
